Movie Party...which flick do you choose?

OK...my best intentions for this blog were more ambitious than what actually took place...that is, the ambition of actually posting!

Two blogs- and two children- are hard to maintain all at once sometimes! ;)

Bur I'd like to do something different for this post...let's make it more interactive!
Pretend we're all together, eating popcorn, and trying to pick a movie to watch. But our movie night theme tonight is "romantic comedy"...what do you choose.
(And it has to have been made before 1963!)

We're talking Doris Day all the way back to Irene Dunn.

Speaking of Doris and Irene, you get bonus points if you can name the movies that they each starred in, where Doris Day did the re-make.
(Both of these are versions are favorites of mine!)

So...what's your favorite? And why?

I'll have to exclude myself because, well, this is my favorite genre and I'd pull out my hair trying to name just one! If you really must, then name two...OK three...and then don't forget the "why"!

My next post, I will be picking one of my favorite actors or actresses to spotlight!

Blessings!

I KNOW the movie you are talking about but my mind went blank!

My Mom was a huge Doris Day/Rock Hudson fan and we saw all those movies. Honestly they were the first two that came to mind. I remember one called Move Over Darling too, because my parents would joke about the title!

Well, Tammy, you reminded me of a movie I would love to see again...Unfaithfully Yours with Rex Harrison. There was a time in high school that I watched this movie over and over again. And I remember loving it. But that was quite a while ago and I haven't seen it since--I would love to watch it again and see just why I liked it so much. I remember that the sarcastic humor fit perfectly with my personality at the time...

Oh I love Doris Day. Always have and always will.

I like some of the old Chevy Chase movies with Goldie Hawn.

My all time favorite old movie is The Goodbye Girl with Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason.

Oh, sorry...romantic comedies aren't my favorite kinds of movies at all. Invite me when we're going to watch John Wayne, war movies or westerns.

One of my all-time faves is The Dirty Dozen with Lee Marvin, Richard Jaeckyl, Ernest Borgnine and an almost all star cast. :-)

Love and hugs,

Diane

The Favorite Wife is the answer and believe it or not, I just donated it today. If I had only known.

Um what movie to watch?? Not, so up on the years, so I'll let someone else decide this time. I'll enjoy it I'm sure.

Please pass the popcorn!!

Pam...YES! I was smiling at all the Doris Day replies since you were all on the edge of that answer. My favorite Wife, starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunn was the original film, and Move Over Darling starring Doris Day and James Garner was the remake...and I loved them both!
Good job, Pam!

Kat and Diane J...sorry girls, those movies were made past our 1965 deadline. Although give me a couple of good John Wayne flicks anytime...but usually if they involve romance! heehee
(Mama Bear, The Quiet Man with John Wayne is one of my absolute favs, too! I try to watch it every St. Patrick's Day since it takes place in Ireland!)

I have three: Pillow Talk (speaking of Doris Day), Operation Petticoat (isn't everything with Cary Grant romantic?), and a little more recent, Moonstruck, which is one of my all time favorites (Olympia Dukakis "Do you Love 'im Loretta?" I just love that)! I also love Never Been Kissed but I wouldn't admit it to anyone but you. Like the blog - Jennifer

Hmmm... before 1963. That leaves out "Strictly Ballroom". "My Favorite Wife"... I have it, but haven't watched it in a while. That's the one that was remade as "Move Over Darling" with Doris Day and Brian Keith, right?

"My Favorite Wife" is great, but when when Cary Grant had so many wonderful leading ladies it's hard to pick just one movie. Just for variety I'll have to go with "The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer" with Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and a teenage Shirley Temple.

Then Jill had to mention "Unfaithfully Yours", which I've never thought of as a romantic comedy. But it got me thinking about all of Preston Sturges' great movies. Don't know if you could call "Sullivan's Travels" or "Miracle of Morgan Creek" romantic comedies, even though they have romance in them. But "The Lady Eve" certainly qualifies.

Okay... I feel foolish now. "Move Over Darling" (1963) had James Garner paired with Doris Day. She played opposite Brian Keith in "With Six You Get Eggroll" (1968). Thank God for IMDB.
